K9 Cadets pack in trained formation

Professional dog training for the life you want together.

Building clear communication and understanding while strengthening the bond between you and your dog.

STEP ONE

Training Assessment

Our Training Assessment is designed to help us understand your dog's behaviour, history, genetics and the relationship between you and your dog. Allowing us to create the most effective training plan moving forward.

Step 1

Complete our online Q&A form.

Step 2

In person meeting — choose one of the two options below.

★ Most Popular

Option A — Riverhead Facility

Duration: 3+ hours

Price: $250

Bring your dog to our Riverhead facility and spend time with us at drop-off to discuss your concerns and goals in more detail. We will assess your dog's behaviour around you and observe how you currently communicate and work together.

After this, your dog will stay with us for the remainder of the assessment. This allows us to observe how they respond in our environment without their owner present, giving us a more complete picture of their behaviour, confidence, social skills, and training needs. Where appropriate, assessments may also include visits to off-site locations.

In-Home

Option B — In-Home Training Assessment

Duration: 1.5 hours

Price: $250 + travel fee for locations more than 10km away.

We come to your home to assess your dog's behaviour in their everyday environment. This option is best suited for dogs whose behavioural challenges only occur at home, or dogs who are too nervous to display their normal behaviour away from familiar surroundings.

Following the assessment, we will discuss the best way forward to reach your goals.

Services

Tailored training options to suit you and your dog.

Consults

Our Consults are one-on-one training sessions with Kim or a senior trainer, where we work alongside you and your dog to achieve your training goals. This option is best suited to owners who have the time, confidence, and desire to be actively involved in their dog's training journey.

Sessions can be held at the K9 Cadets facility, your home, or the location where the issue is occurring. Travel fees apply for clients located outside our 10km service radius.

Day Training

A step up from Consults, Day Training allows your dog to spend the day learning directly with our team. Simply drop your dog off and we'll work on the skills and behaviours they need, one step at a time.

At pick-up, you'll receive an owner handover session where we explain what your dog has learned and how to continue reinforcing those skills at home. Each session builds on the last, creating steady progress towards your training goals.

For the best long-term results, we recommend following Day Training with Consults, allowing us to help you transfer your dog's new skills into real-world situations, your home environment, and everyday family life.

Board & Train

At K9 Cadets, we believe lasting behavioural change requires more than obedience alone. Our focus is not simply controlling behaviour, but changing how dogs perceive the world around them.

By addressing the root cause of behaviour, breaking unhealthy habits, and providing healthy outlets for natural instincts and breed traits, we create meaningful, long-term change for both dogs and their owners.

Using proven learning theory and behavioural science, we build engagement, clear communication, and a genuine enjoyment and desire to learn.

Overview

Our Board and Train program offers an intensive 3 - 4 + week course designed for dogs with complex behavioural issues or those needing a solid foundation in obedience training quickly, especially when owners lack the time to achieve this through the above services. Owner Involvement

Each Friday, we conduct a private training session with you and your family to review your dog's progress and teach you the skills needed to continue the training over the weekend. This is where your learning journey begins, allowing you to build confidence and understanding one step at a time. We recommend setting aside time for two to three 1-hour practice sessions at home to help reinforce your dog's learning and strengthen your handling skills. NOTE: Some dogs may not be suitable for returning home on weekends or you may wish to take a holiday while your dog undergoes its program. In these cases, discounted weekend boarding is available.

At the completion of the program, we provide a comprehensive transfer session, followed by three follow-up training sessions to help you confidently apply the training in your home, family, and real-world environments.

A Lifelong Journey

Like any skill, training must be maintained—without regular practice, even the strongest behaviours will fade over time.

Dog training and behaviour change are ongoing processes, not one-time fixes. We establish the foundations, but consistency in everyday life determines long-term results.

Our role regarding owner training is to give you the, knowledge, and understanding needed to lead, guide and reinforce your dog effectively. Your role is to apply it.

While some behavioural traits may always require maintenance, meaningful and lasting results and even more progress are achievable when training is carried through into daily life.
